Heart/Lung/LVAD Support Group
People facing transplantation are looking at big changes in their lifestyle and need support from their family and friends.
The Heart/Lung/LVAD Support Group meets every Thursday at 4:00 PM in Dunn 463.
Caregiver experience stress as well as the patient. Prolonged responsibilities, absence from work, isolation from a normal social life, long stays at the hospital can contribute to caregiver burnout.
In the support group, we will share experiences. Some of the ideas that we discuss may come from the following questions:
- What stresses me?
- Who are my caregivers?
- Where will I live before and after transplantation?
- What kind of changes will I have to make in order to be transplanted?
- What are my good habits?
- What are my bad habits?
- What kind of changes will I have to make after transplant?
- What will my life be like after I am transplanted?
A transplant patient can be compared to an athlete who succeeds against great odds. The family and treatment team act as the coach, athletic trainer, cheerleader, and pep squad. Everyone works together to insure a successful transplant!
